Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are a class of medications commonly prescribed to reduce stomach acid production and treat conditions like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and peptic ulcers. The mechanism of PPIs primarily involves reduced stomach acid production. However, stomach acid is important for absorbing certain nutrients.
